Welcome To Tooling Source

www.toolingsource.co.uk is the place to buy original and replacement tooling.

A range of tools, tool and work holding pieces and accessories are widely available for different industries and manufacturing needs, as well as precision machine tooling to meet your exact specifications.

Tooling machines include systems that use the latest CNC – computer numerical control – technology, as well as manually operated versions.

Many firms offer a complete service and will use drawings or other details of machines or tooling to produce custom designs and then create the part, whether it’s a single tool or prototype or a large batch.

But innovative technology is rapidly changing the machinery tooling industry, making it possible for manufacturers to produce bespoke parts in a fraction of the time it once took.

Rapid tooling techniques such as rapid injection moulding and rapid prototyping have transformed machine tooling, enabling fabricators to make new and replacement parts in a matter of days, or even hours.

Parts can be designed using modelling software and then created using high speed tooling machines, allowing fast and cost-effective production of tooling components to meet high volume orders.

A number of firms now specialise in the production of press brake tooling, producing parts that can bend sheet metal to different angles or shapes for CNC and conventional machines.

Machine Tooling

Tooling machines are powered mechanical devices, which are typically used to fabricate metal components of machines by machining, which is the selective removal of metal. The term machine tooling is usually reserved for tools that used a power source other than human movement. They can however be powered by people if they are appropriately programmed. Tooling machines can be powered from a variety of sources using tooling accessories. Human power is an option. However, machine tooling has really begun to evolve over the years and today the majority are powered electricity.

Tooling machinery can be operated manually, for example hand held power tools, or under automatic control. After the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine was developed, computers have been added to give even more flexibility to the process. Such machines became known as computerized numerical control (CNC) machines. NC and CNC machines can precisely repeat sequences over and over, and so therefore produce much more complex pieces than even the most skilled tool operators.

Now, machine tooling can automatically change the specific cutting and shaping tools that were being used. For example, a drill machine might contain a magazine with a variety of drill bits for producing holes of various sizes. Previously, either machine operators would usually have to manually change the bit or move the work piece to another station to perform these different operations. The next logical step was to combine several different machine tools together, all under computer control.

Tooling Accessories

From the simplest to the most complex, most tooling machines and machine tool accessories are capable of at least partial self replication since they produce machine parts as their primary function. Examples of tooling and tooling machines are press brake tooling, saws, drill presses and grinders. When fabricating, or shaping parts, several techniques and various tooling components are used to remove unwanted metal.
